Cybercrime a Growing Threat: Young IPS Officers Urged to Tackle with Technical Expertise

Highlighting the rising threat of cybercrime, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai has called upon the next generation of IPS officers to spearhead the fight against this growing challenge by leveraging advanced technical skills. Speaking at the prestigious Dikshant Parade for the 76th batch of IPS recruits at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) near Hyderabad, Minister Rai emphasized the critical role of cyber forensics and other cutting-edge initiatives launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In his address, the Minister noted that while significant progress has been made in controlling terrorism and Left Wing Extremism (LWE), much work remains to eliminate these threats entirely. He encouraged the young officers to lead efforts that will further strengthen the country’s security infrastructure.

Future of Policing: Embracing Technology

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been a strong proponent of integrating technology into India’s internal security framework. Minister Rai echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of the newly established Police Technology Mission, which aims to modernize law enforcement with state-of-the-art solutions to manage internal security.

He urged the officers to go beyond traditional methods of policing by focusing on the root causes of crimes, particularly in the cyber domain, to dismantle criminal networks before they can disrupt peace. “Instead of merely taking criminals to court, investigators must work to prevent their ability to destabilize the country,” Rai said.

A New Era of Law Enforcement

The parade saw the culmination of basic training for 207 officer trainees, including 188 IPS officers and 19 international officers from nations such as Nepal and Bhutan. Among them were 58 women officers, marking a significant step toward gender representation in the police force.

The event underlined the government’s focus on technical skill development in law enforcement as cybercrime continues to pose a serious threat to national security. The integration of technology and strategic policing is expected to form the backbone of a more secure, resilient future for India.
